Sonny92 Dave Gilbert, the man behind Trebuchet, is one half of the doom duo Dark Matter and is a man of impressive musical ambitions. Although resources are limited, Dave's compositions are wide-sweeping and encompass genres from doom metal, classic hard rock, old-school heavy metal and progressive rock. Doom devotees who need a dose of classic doom metal and admire a band with a vision who give it their all should definitely check this out.

Gregory This album caught my eye because Trebuchet is an awesome band name, but it is an apt description of their sound as well. The music is heavy and crushing, like a Trebuchet. Also, the riffs are great! They are very memorable, and the ghostly ballad "Girl From The Fen" is a true highlight. Great album! Favorite track: The Devil's Den.

Loke Sjöberg The band name is excellent and the record's undeniable quality makes the band members worthy to call themselves Trebuchet. I'm sure my blessing means the world to them..

This album will likely be enjoyable for anyone into doom metal / psych rock / prog. The album has consistent quality throughout in my opinion, really happy i checked it out.

Originally, this project was going to be a a vehicle for Dave to hone his production skills. However, although that is still true (Dave engineers the whole thing), Trebuchet has become a very important project.
Trebuchet has turned into something completely different as first planned. Not a side project at all, but a full on new project which the guys hope will last forever, as they are having a blast working together.
They, meaning Dave Gilbert (Dark Matter and Minor Planet) and Shayne Joseph (Eldritch Rites).
To cut a long story short, the guys met online and became firm buddies through the power of technology.
It all happened, when Dave was asked to record the vocalists voice, for the debut album by Open Door Of Doom. Australian band Eldritch Rites (Melbourne) supplied the music. Shayne is their guitarist, vocalist and main writer.
Many conversations confirmed Dave and Shayne had so much in common musically and became good friends online.
Dave decided to ask Shayne if he'd like to join him for the ride in Trebuchet. It seemed a no brainer.

Visiting Castle Hedingham in Essex in 2016, gave Dave the idea of what to call his new recording project.
Trebuchet, a huge medieval sling, in which objects are catapulted.
It gave an imagery, perfect for what he was trying to achieve musically. Total chaos!!! Well, not quite, but a nod back to the bands who did their own thing, back when heavy rock was in it's infancy.

This is a great album. Rob Zombie once said, "Every cool riff has already been written by Black Sabbath." I think Dave Gilbert proves that this is not true. This album has some seriously good riifs that hook in the listener, and I really enjoyed the lyrics, especially the 3 part conceptual piece "In A Fractured Land". Gregory

It's like I'm listening to a Bon Scott that had a conversion experience after nearly drowning in his own vomit, then listened to a bunch of Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy. It's nice listening to music that's not about bad poosy, partying, or depression. Puncho

So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. This... THIS is how you revive classic and traditional metal from the 80s while making it your own. I could rant and rave for a mini novel's worth of words about why this album is just... impossibility good. I've had to retract so much because of how long winded I got.
